Celebrating our Centennial

In April 1924, a visionary named James Forrester opened the doors of The Dearborn Agency, laying the foundation for a legacy that would span a century. With humble beginnings and a team of just two additional employees, the agency quickly became an integral part of the Dearborn community.

Over the course of the ensuing decades, The Dearborn Agency not only withstood challenges, but they also flourished, growing in both size and stature. The 1950s marked a significant chapter as the agency merged with G.M. Underwriters, a prominent underwriting firm located in downtown Detroit. This strategic move positioned The Dearborn Agency for even greater success.

In 1958, the agency signed their first contract with Chubb Insurance, followed shortly by the partnership with Travelers/Aetna in 1962. These collaborations solidified The Dearborn Agency’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the insurance industry and still stand more than 60 years later.

By 1983, The Dearborn Agency had evolved into one of the largest independent agencies in Western Wayne County, boasting a team of 15 dedicated staff members. The turning point of our modern leadership came in 1985 when Robert Putnam assumed control of the Agency. Under Mr. Putnam’s visionary leadership, the 1980s witnessed remarkable growth as dynamic individuals were recruited, expanding opportunities for employee ownership and advancement.

In 1986, Kathryn Cude became a stockholder and assumed the role of Vice President. Her dedication and commitment to excellence paved the way for her promotion to Agency President in 1999. Through her tenure, The Dearborn Agency not only navigated but thrived in the challenging landscape of the insurance industry.

Our current leader, Sandra Daniels, started at the agency in 1988 and worked her way to President in 2012. Her journey from new-hire to leadership mirrors the agency’s enduring commitment to fostering talent from within.

As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we reflect on a century of resilience, innovation, and community impact. The Dearborn Agency stands as a testament to the dedication of its founders, leaders, and employees past and present.
