Bounce, Bounce, Bounce….
Oh, I’m sorry; I didn’t realize anyone was watching me. As you can see, I was enjoying my new trampoline. Since you are here, let’s talk about trampoline safety and what the stores that you buy them from don’t tell you when it comes to home owners insurance.
Firstly, did you know that most insurance companies will not write a home policy when they have a trampoline without certain guidelines being met? What are some of those guidelines, you ask? I suppose I can share.
• There needs to be a net around the trampoline itself.
• The trampoline needs to be anchored down.
• Most importantly, IT NEEDS TO BE FENCED IN!
Even if you meet these requirements, there may be a chance that your insurance company still will not insure your home if there is a trampoline. Why not? The bottom line is that having one is a huge liability exposure. Even if you have a net around it, it’s anchored down and in a fenced in area, there is no telling if someone will hop your fence and get hurt on it. It doesn’t matter if they technically came on to your private property uninvited, because you would still be on the hook for damages. If you have the neighborhood kids over to play with your little ones and Jonny jumps to high which causes Ally to fall off and break her arm, you are still held accountable. I would bet the salesperson is not informing you of all of this when you are purchasing one.
Your best bet is to call your insurance agent before getting a trampoline to see what the company guidelines are. You would hate to be in a situation that you are being sued and oops, you didn’t tell your insurance company and now they are canceling your policy because you did not inform them, and now you have to pay out of pocket for that liability suit against you.
Being informed is the first and the best way to keep you and your family protected.
Glad we had this talk, I’m going to go back to enjoying my new trampoline, lucky for me I have followed all the rules, as you can see, and my company is keeping me covered.
Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to call your insurance agent!!
